Yesterday we started our journey to the beach at around 3:30pm and made it 8 hours to Louisiana. I purchased dual DVD players for the car, so the kids pretty much watched Shrek and Tinker Belle (their new obsession!) until they finally fell asleep around 8:30. We drove until close to midnight and after a couple hiccups at the hotel, we all fell asleep.
The kids were up at about 7 and we hit the road at about 8:30. We had some extra time, so we decided to take a 30 minute detour to New Orleans! On the way I was excited to see an alligator in one of the swamps!
It was definitely deja vu once we got to New Orleans since Eric and I were just there two weekends ago, but it was really fun to go there with the kids (they make everything better and more fun, don't they?!). We walked around the French Market and then had a very NOLA lunch of muffaletta, red beans and rice and a shrimp po boy. After lunch we HAD to take them to Cafe du Monde, especially since they'd been there before- when they were in my belly! This time they actually got to experience to powdered sugar goodness, and they definitely enjoyed it!
After eating we hit the road and the kids did great watching their DVDs and coloring. After a little while Anderson told us he went poo so to make sure he was telling the truth I investigated his diaper. To my big surprise, we suddenly had a major blow-out on our hands! I won't go into details because ew, gross, but I will say that today was the first time one of the kids had a bath in a gas station sink!!
Once back on the road we were at our destination in no time and we are so happy with our rental! It is an adorable condo right on a lazy river. The complex has a ton of pools and is beach-front. After unpacking a bit and feeding the kids dinner we took a family walk over to the beach and oh my goodness- the sand is like sugar!! We've been to a ton of beaches all over the Caribbean and Mexico and nothing compares to this! It's gorgeous! The kids loved it and we got to the beach right at sunset. We even saw some dolphins swimming by! I can't wait to take the kids there during the day tomorrow (because there was definitely a cool ocean breeze tonight!).
On our way back to the condo Emery told us she had an "ouchie" on her hand, and she wasn't kidding- she had about 7(!) splinters from the boardwalk! :( Poor girl! You could tell from the way she was holding her hand that she was in pain, but she didn't cry at all! I quickly went to the store to buy tweezers and when I got back our best girl showed us how brave she is by holding very still and letting me get at the splinters. Some of them were really big and thick (and painful!) but she did so well while I was getting them out. She is so wonderful!
Bedtime soon followed and our fun pool and beach days begin tomorrow! Sorry, no pictures- I forgot a usb cord :( I'll add them later.
