Yesterday we woke up to 40 degree weather! First order of business was to run to Target for jeans! (Avo- I had to go down to a size 18mo on the jeans you got them and even those are too big! Our kiddos are petit!) Luckily we hadn't planned on going in the water in the morning anyway, so it didn't ruin our day! Instead we went to the Destin Seafood Festival. It was a blast! Located in a picturesque boardwalk area, the festival had live music, food, drinks, petting zoo, balloon makers etc. We walked from one end to the next trying to work up our appetite and by the time we turned around to get serious about eating (there were a million food options, all equally mouth-watering!) Anderson had fallen asleep in the stroller! It was so cute and we laughed remembering that he took his naps just like this in his stroller while we were out walking around Paris this time last year. I guess some things don't change :). To let him sleep for a bit we enjoyed some special time with Emery, listening to music and snuggling with our best girl. After a while we got too hungry to wait for Andy to wake up, so we found a nice table and took turns getting food while the other sat with our little man. We both loved our lunches and Emery ate a good amount off of each of our plates. Just as we were finishing up Anderson woke up. We couldn't entice him to eat our fish and crab cakes (no surprise there) so we packed up and headed back to our "beach house," as the kids are calling it.
When we got home we decided to try out the lazy river. It was freeeeezing, so we thought we would try out the beach instead. Luckily the ocean was a bit warmer, so we played in the water for a little bit. The kids didn't last too long since it was still pretty chilly, so we had some relaxation time back at the condo. We made tacos for dinner and pretty soon it was bedtime!
Monday:
Woke up to another cold morning, so my original plan of spending our mornings at the pool needs to be modified! I'm definitely bummed about the weather- last week it was in the high 80's and so far it's been no where near that while we've been here. Luckily it gets warmer in the afternoons, so it's just a matter of finding entertainment for the first 6 hours of the day!
Today we drove over to this cute little golf community called Baytown Warf. We walked around for a bit and let the kids play on the playground. Once we were hungry for lunch we went back to the area where the seafood festival was held to try out one of the restaurants. Unfortunately every pace was super touristy and waaaay overpriced. We weren't really interested in spending $100 on lunch for what would most likely be mediocre food, so I started asking people who looked like locals. Finally I found a true local who knew just the place when I said I wanted a more "dive-y seafood place." He directed us to exactly what we were looking for- a tiny little joint right on the water where you order at the front and then sit at one of their picnic tables. Perfect! The food was awesome and it was an easy place to go with the kids. We'll probably go back, since it seems like most of the places around here are tourist traps.
After lunch we attempted to put the kids down for naps back at the beach house, but they were having none of that! We eventually gave in and spent the rest of the day at the beach. It was a beautiful afternoon of playing in the water, digging in the sand and flying our turtle kite (thanks Coleman's!). We had BLT's back at the condo and the kids went to bed nice and early :) Time for some grown up time consisting of cocktails and Bananagrams! Love vacations!
